Spring is the perfect season for a detox. After winter, the body tends to accumulate toxins and feel heavier. According to Ayurveda, this is the best time to eliminate impurities, improve digestion, and regain vitality.

Why do a detox in spring?

During winter, the Kapha dosha accumulates in the body, which can lead to fatigue, slow digestion, fluid retention, and mucus buildup. An Ayurvedic detox helps to:

✅ Restore Agni (digestive fire) to improve food assimilation

✅ Eliminate toxins (Ama) that affect energy and mental clarity

✅ Strengthen the immune system and metabolism

✅ Feel lighter and more energized

How to detox according to your dosha?

Each person is unique, and Ayurveda recommends adapting the detox to each dosha’s needs to avoid imbalances:

💨 Vata (Air and Ether)

  • Avoid long fasts, as they can increase instability

  • Prioritize warm, nourishing foods with good fats (soups, kitchari with ghee, ginger infusions)

  • Recommended herbs: Ashwagandha, basil, and licorice

🔥 Pitta (Fire and Water)

  • Avoid strict fasting and spicy or acidic foods

  • Opt for fresh and calming foods such as kitchari, light soups, and mild green juices

  • Recommended herbs: Cilantro, mint, and fennel

🌿 Kapha (Earth and Water)

  • Benefit from a more intense detox with warming spices (ginger, black pepper, turmeric)

  • Avoid heavy and cold foods

  • Intermittent fasting or fasts longer than 2 days can be very beneficial

Precautions before starting a detox:

Before starting, it is important to take some precautions:

⚠️ Avoid extreme detoxes if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a chronic illness, or are very weak

⚠️ If you have severe digestive issues, consult a professional before starting

⚠️ A detox is not recommended in cases of constipation or during menstruation

⚠️ If you have a dominant Vata dosha, opt for a gentle cleanse with warm and nourishing foods
